Hold onto this tape if Amy Coney Barrett ends up being Trump’s nominee on Saturday. She’s entitled to be as shameless as her nominator, no doubt, but just how smart she is will be tested by how she handles this bit of hypocrisy.

Trump #SCOTUS front-runner Amy Coney Barrett, when asked whether Obama should be able to appoint a Supreme Court justice in an election year, said it's inappropriate when it would “dramatically flip the balance of power."

How can we be certain that the USA is her first loyalty?

Would she be willing to do this? I doubt it.

It can be hard to appear smart when one needs to do that. The need to do that is based on selfishness and authoritarianism.

Oh...and some are just plain stupid too of course.

Her record is tainted by her statement here and by her cult membership. Trump wants a quick passage to confirmation and that will not happen here. But, clever mover that he is, Trump holds her up as the primo choice so the Dems will over-prepare for little Miss Handmaid and will doubtlessly put up someone without the baggage Amy is carrying. If there were more time, he might nominate Amy only to ask her to withdraw because it would give him ammo to chip away at the woman's vote.

But there's no time. So who's number 2 on the list?

It would take a lot of the wind out of the Democratic sails if he did.

It would be an incredible strategic move. It might even save some republican seats in the senate. Like you said, "If Trump was smart....", but he isn't!
