and it felt so good!
It was an in-state phone poll, and it seemed pretty legit, not one sided or push polling. The poor woman on the other end seemed a little flustered:
"If the presidential election were being held today, who would you vote..."
"Joe Biden."
"for; Joe Biden or Do..."
"Please don't even say his name. Voting for Joe and Kamala."
"Ok. Do you approve or disapprove of the job... the president has been doing?"
"Do you have anything stronger than disapprove?"
"I can say strongly disapprove."
"How about loathe, or abhor?"
"I hear you, but my options end at strongly disapprove."
"Mine don't, but let's go ahead and put strongly disapprove then."
She was a good sport.

(23,313 posts)on land lines but not cell phones. I was polled when W was running the second time and when Obama was running in 2008. I had a land line then but disconnected it in 2012. I havent been polled since. Im just wondering.

(219 posts)I haven't had a land line for a few years now.
I also set up an Act Blue account and made some donations over the last few weeks.

(2,343 posts)I've always wanted to be polled, but I do not answer calls from numbers I dont recognize.
Other than my dad, who bitches constantly about spam calls, I dont know anywone that answers unknown numbers.

(7,263 posts)And sometimes not.
Guess it depends on the organization. Quinnipiac always shows up, the rest it's been hit or miss. We get anywhere from 4 to 12 in a presidential year.

(2,343 posts)Did you learn the sponsor of the poll?
If I knew who it was, it would help me determine my answers. If I knew it was a public or Trump internal, Id want to add some error to their results.
I think many people lie to pollsters. I have a coworker that gets called all the time. He says he answers 180 degrees to the opposite of his true answer.

(7,263 posts)I can do the detective work after the fact and figure it out when the polls are published however.
And I never lie to a pollster. I will not answer push poll type questions, I just hang up if I feel that is what it is. But I never lie to them. Polls are Science and Science requires the Truth to work correctly.
I believe in Science. It is my ONLY religion.

(2,343 posts)I want my side to be under-confident and the other to be over. I wish the HRC campaign would not have been so cocked sure.

(219 posts)the sponsor of the poll. The number popped up with a geographic location (Manassas, VA).

(3,321 posts)Been polled a few times. I always want stronger wording than strongly disapprove.
My preferred options are a bit stronger than loathe or abhor. Feel free to guess what words I would actually like to use.

(25,853 posts)and I don't believe they ever tell you which polling firm. Pretty sure the person asking the questions doesn't know.
Sometimes you can figure it out based on the questions.

(6,544 posts)I had a lot of fun.
I suspect the guy taking the poll was actually just doing a job, as he laughed at a number of my comments, as if he agreed but couldn't say so

(7,503 posts)Question was would you be more or less likely to vote for President Trump because of his handling of Coronavirus. I answered no, She said what? I said no I wouldn't be more or less likely. I was never going to vote for him. She then asked same question re. economy. I think she got exasperated at that point.

(62,411 posts)They started with presidential question and worked their way down to the push questions which were predicated on lies.
I called the poller on this and said it was a shame he needed a job so bad he had to get one where he lied to people.

(1,850 posts)Which involves all of us lying and saying we're voting for 45. His numbers will go up and he'll feel more secure, less need for cheating. Then we vote him out.
He's going to to contest it anyway. But I thought he'd be less likely to cheat if he thought he was going to win. And of course of would be a much bigger disappoinment for him.
The thing is, I couldn't bring myself to to lie about that, to say I was voting for the orange turd.
But the idea was fun to entertain.
