It seems that he knows that he's going down and probably big, so he's trying to stir the pot as much as possible before then, hoping he'll be able to sway public opinion.

The problem (for him) is that everyone made up their minds on Trump years ago. It's why his approval rating is so stable and why it's unlikely to budge, barring something completely unusual. Maybe even then.
