The President may have left himself no choice but to resign. It is hard to imagine anything he wants, a SC nominee, support, funding, anything going forward now.
I doubt very seriously there will be a debate now.
I DO believe he will resign by mid-October.

(27,543 posts)This will make no difference to Republican officeholders, nor to the 42% or more of Americans who are MAGAt true believers. Theyll all agree with him and continue doing his bidding.

(28,836 posts)He says nutty things all the time. This isn't any crazier - or realistic - than his usual nonsense. His supporters won't even blink.

(8,646 posts)He is an aspiring dictator. He is going to try for it instead of resigning.
I think there will be such a groundswell of support for Biden that even his attempts at rigging it will fail. He is going down.

I do believe a number of Republicans in Congress will blink.
"Get rid of the ballots." He said that on national television. Once he knows winning is an impossibility, he has to resign so Pence can pardon him for what he can. But I feel he would resign before the election to avoid the humiliation.
I don't think the Senate will take up his nominee after saying this, after saying the SC will decide earlier today, after the Atlantic story.
They won't want to be tied to what appears to be, by his own words, an attempt to subvert election results.

(46 posts)Supreme court pick was argubly his strongest card in his pocket, but McConnell played it. He's lost that leverage with his voter base. They'll be satisfied with the prospect of a strong conservative Supreme Court, even if Trump isn't president again. He's fulfilled his purpose to the GOP.

(18,690 posts)newspapers in Europe, Australia, Israel, Canada, etc...) should begin to call for his resignation on the front page of their papers. It won't change what the Rs do, but it will provide a societal reality check. IT IS TIME FOR THIS MONSTER TO GO. If the media pretends like this is business as usual, we are gaslighting ourselves.
Trump violates norms, but that doesn't mean we all have to.

No worries if you don't want to, but your obsession with Trump's resignation just a few weeks before Election Day is fascinating, to say the least!
