I understand that the Louisville cops who just skated insisted that they announced themselves as

LEOs before breaking into Breonna Taylor's apartment despite all neighbors but one, apparently, saying they heard no such announcement.

These cops had a "no-knock" warrant and they broke down her door to gain entry. No-knock warrants are available in only some states and, in general, are only issued if there is reason to believe---detailed in the sworn application---that either evidence will be instantly destroyed if they announce or that notifying an occupant that police are seeking entry could endanger the officers, i.e., get them shot.

My question: if these officers swore to facts which enabled them to obtain a no-knock warrant, why would they then announce their presence with a warrant---as they insist they did---to the occupants of the apartment?

The only reason I was can think of is IF they announced themselves as police officers, Breonna's boyfriend---who possessed a legal firearm and shot at the cops as they entered---cannot claim he was defending himself and Breonna from unknown attackers breaking into the apartment. Instead, he is characterized as a "cop shooter".

Is it necessary to say that this story smells to high heaven?

According to the New York Times, "While the department had gotten court approval for a 'no-knock' entry, the orders were changed before the raid to 'knock and announce,' meaning that the police had to identify themselves."[2] According to the police account[3][4] and a witness at the scene, the officers knocked and announced their identity before forcing entry, but the police and the witness differ as to how they announced themselves. Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, and 11 other witnesses deny that the officers announced themselves at all.[5] Walker and the officers exchanged gunfire. Walker has said that he believed the officers were intruders. The officers fired over 20 shots. Taylor was shot five times, according to her death certificate,[6][7] and LMPD Sergeant Jonathan Mattingly was injured by gunfire.[8] Another officer and an LMPD lieutenant were on the scene when the warrant was executed.[9]

7. Thank you for the correction. I have to wonder, though, why the last-minute change?

Who requested it?

What was original reason for the no-knock?

What changed?

All but one witness said they did not hear any knocks or announcements. Only one person said they did which fit the cops narrative.

There were some seriously weird inconsistencies with the cops side of things so I wonder if it could have been changed after the incident to look like it was done right before they broke in the door or if the no-knock cops even knew of it at the time they arrived.

Good questions though.

approved no-knock warrants for his racist cop buddies.
judicial retention is such a joke. i always vote no on all of them. there is no way a good judge goes down w that system. i figure if there is a push to take down a bad one, i want to be on that team.

10. "I always vote no on all of them." Is that what passes for responsible voting where you live?

There are no good judges?

You'd have voted no on RBG?

Reconsider this, please.

it´s a rigged system. i used to be super careful, studied the ballot, all the recs.
hell, i was on the board of the local dem party. we used to meet all the candidates, go over the ratings. and recommend. i took it as our most solemn duty. for new hires, i still do all that.
but 60% to remove? that aint democracy. i got no problem puttin my finger on a scale like that.

problem with putting your "finger on the scale" of an election is simply indefensible.

How can you expect Trump not to "put his finger on the scale" in November?

With the normal warrant, police announce themselves and wait a specified amount of time for the door to be opened. If not, then they proceed to force it. In a "No knock warrant" they are not required tp announce themselves first, but instead proceed to immediately force entry while at the same time announcing "Police - we have a warrant" or words to that effect. The cops story is entirely consistent with normal police practice in those situations.
