On a recent evening, Jerry Sheridan, Republican candidate for Maricopa County sheriff, arrived at a house in south Phoenix where a former sheriff's detective hosted a meet-and-greet for the former deputy chief.
In the front yard, a taquero served carnitas, carne asada and tacos al pastor to a few dozen guests, many of whom were there to meet Sheridan. For the last six years of his 34-year career, Sheridan was Sheriff Joe Arpaio's right-hand man.
George Sanchez, who has a Latinos for Trump sign in his front yard and retired from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in 2012, hosted the event on Mexican Independence Day for Sheridan. Sanchez said Sheridan will raise morale in the Sheriff's Office.
Hispanic people have conservative values, many of which are represented by the Republican Party, and Sheridan shares those values as a longtime law enforcement officer, Sanchez said.
"He v.alues friendship," Sanchez said of Sheridan. "He doesn't care whether you're white, Hispanic, Black, or whatever. I've always felt comfortable around him. I've never heard him say any off-color jokes."

He might have been forced out if he hadnt done so since investigators looking into his actions concluded that Chief Deputy Sheridan's testimony and statements regarding unopened emails, meetings he does not recall attending, ignorance of an issue that garnered front page press reporting and public interest, and his unawareness of the preliminary injunction, is implausible."
Most recently, Sheridan has cozied up to a group at Arizona State University called College Republicans United, a misnomer since another group, ASU College Republicans, has accused College Republicans United of a pattern of blatantly racist and antisemitic conduct.
College Republicans United also has indicated it plans to donate to the defense fund of the young man accused of murder for killing two people at protests in Kenosha ...
