Donald Trump reportedly "went s---house crazy" after a criminal-justice policy he implemented failed to improve his polling numbers among Black voters.
"Why the hell did I do that?" Trump yelled at his senior aides, current and former administration officials told The Washington Post.
The legislation in question, called the First Step Act, aimed to tackle major racial disparities in the prison system that disproportionately affect Black people as a result of decades-long mass incarceration. Since the bill passed in 2018, about 4,700 incarcerated people have been released or had their prison sentences reduced, The Post reported on Wednesday.
Trump initially refused to support the initiative and changed his mind only when senior aides informed him it would better his weak standing with Black voters, according to The Post.

(16,838 posts)stupid as the trash that attend his Covid-spreading rallies. Besides, I don't know how many people have heard of that legislation; I never heard about it. It wasn't insignificant to the people it helped, but it wasn't significant enough to help that many people.

But the truth is no one respects you, Trump. You have no friends. You're a pathetic despicable footnote who will be forgotten as soon as the spotlight fades.

(9,988 posts)who thinks Black people should be kissing his ass over the tiniest little gesture. He didn't do it because he had any understanding or caring whatsoever about the issue. He did it because he thought it would get him some sycophants. He thinks "those people" should be grateful.
Republicans always think Black people are dumb. I remember the IL Senate race in '04 when the bottom dropped out of the Republican campaign because Jack Ryan's wife Seven of Nine went public about some non-consensual pressure involving sex clubs, and instead of finding an actual relatively sane IL resident to run, they dragged in Alan Fucking Keyes to move in to some apartment in Calumet City real fast because, hey, he's Black right? He can challenge Obama with Black voters right? We saw how well that worked out for them. They tried to try it again just recently with Kanye West's obviously kind of unhinged publicity stunt of a campaign. They really thought Black people would fall for that.
I'm not Black but these ploys are utterly transparent and insulting even to ME, and I don't kid myself I can see all the nuances as well as someone who's lived it.

(1,235 posts)prioritizes criminal justice. Plus, he lied about a virus that has disproportionately killed Black people and he clearly doesnt care about spreading it. That supersedes everything else. At one point I think 33% of Black people knew a COVID victim, its way higher now
