1994 Crime Bill truth

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violent_Crime_Control_and_Law_Enforcement_Act

You're going to hear a lot about this bill in the next several weeks. Get the facts out about it. The 1994 Crime Bill was not around drug enforcement, it was around violent crime prevention. It actually increased the rights of the public and offered more treatment options for drug offenders.

It protected women, children, and banned assault weapons. It increased community policing (which works). It put more officers on the street.

This bill has very little to do with the problems in policing we're seeing today.

Mass-incarceration was mostly a direct result of the 1970s and 80s.

The 1`994 Crime Bill is not the problem, while it was far from perfect, it took the focus off from the drug war and put it where it belongs on prevention of violent crime.
