: "To me it makes no sense for American workers to produce high-labor-content products. Let the billions of people around the world do that and provide us these goods high quality, dirt cheap.

(31,261 posts)parts manufacturing jobs, machine tool manufacturing jobs. Those jobs spun off local service jobs like food service, insurance, healthcare, ect, and paid for services like firefighting, EMTs, teachers, police. Now a lot of the instate industry is gone. What is left are rural economies centered around a declining dairy industry, beer manufacturing, and increasingly well-off bedroom communities-where people work in Chicago and its big suburbs and then come home to the bedroom communities. The bedroom communities have a lot of amenities like restaurants, shopping theaters, ect, because money is there - those things provide low paying jobs to rural and some urban people that commute to them.

(6,448 posts)I heard from an employee once that Tombstone Pizza workers had been working 7 days a week for a few months because applicants couldn't pass the drug test. That district is as Trumpian as you'll ever see. As red as tomato sauce.

(31,261 posts)His family controls S. C. Johnson, a company that makes a lot of products Americans use almost daily. I doubt that he has seriously worked a day in his life, and he likely has no understanding of why anyone not fortunate enough to be born rich like him would fret about jobs going away, what he knows is that if his familys company can acquire ingredients cheaply, the profit of the finished products becomes larger.

Unless WI is turning into Rock Ridge from Blazing Saddles, they probably aren't related.
