First time voting in NC since I moved down here in February from MD. BF and I decided to get our mail-in ballots ASAP, since he is high-risk we did not want to vote in person. Last night he received his confirmation and I got mine first thing this morning! Here's hoping it helps.

(31,535 posts)I originally planned to vote early in person and discovered this last week that the early voting location where I have voted since moving to downtown Raleigh in 2018 is NOT included in the list of 20 early voting locations for Wake County. I am very disappointed because I never had to wait in line there and it was only a 5 minute walk from my apartment.
I live alone. Now I have to knock on a neighbor's door and get someone to observe me filling out my absentee ballot and sign the back of my envelope before I mail in my absentee ballot. I do not want to risk having to stand in line for early voting after driving to a location with limited parking that is now the closest early voting site.

(45,038 posts)Our early voting only allows one location per county. Which means there are going to be lines in our only early voting location, since I live in a large county. Which I normally could deal with but not during a pandemic.
We don't need a witness, so it's easier than in NC.

(2,779 posts)I voted absentee in '08 because I was in VA for grad school. At least at that time MD did not require a witness. Seems like something to make mail voting more difficult (especially during a pandemic).

(2,779 posts)Thankfully since we now live together we could be witnesses for each other. And we were able to track the progress of our ballot to make sure it arrived at the Board of Elections.

(2,779 posts)Are you able to track it? We did and it helped bring us some relief during the process.

(2,626 posts)We've been voting by mail in AZ since 2015. We signed up for permanent early voting and it's worked out very well for us. Well, except for the part about our candidate not winning in 2016. I have a feeling that won't be the case this year. Whether he contests it or not, tRump is not winning this one.

(2,779 posts)From what I've learned, Wilmington is kinda blue, the area I live in is a little more conservative, but I have not noticed a lot of political signage either way. But then we do live in an apartment complex that is very new.
Happy to make a difference! And contemplating how much booze to pick up from the ABC store....
