A mysterious post about a CVS manager being shot in the back aroused many, many responses, mostly asking for more information or expressing surprise that a Google search showed nothing. This was a post intended to do exactly what it did--get us excited (in the troll's eye) and elicit lots of attention. The Proud Boy or whoever it was can report--accurately--that he pwned the libs with his little game. May I humbly suggest, should this kind of thing happen again, that once one poster has asked for further information, the rest of us sit on our hands until there is some kind of verification of the story? If we don't give them the attention they crave, we won't even have to report them. I imagine "banned from DU!!!" is another aspirational motive for these guys. Without responses, he'll eventually go away. But if we keep giving him what he wants, he (they) won't stay away. Just like the mice when I don't put food away.

A bunch of idiots bragging to another bunch of idiots means nothing, as far as I'm concerned.

I agree that we should vet our sources and wait for confirmation prior to jumping on the bandwagon of any story. I assume everything is false until proven otherwise, particularly when it sounds outlandish. I recommend the same.

I don't agree that it means anything in the general scheme of things or that they won't try again. Same thing happens every cycle and it'll only get worse from here on out.

free posts on DU. I usually trash them.

The CVS shooting post was one of the weirdest ones and DUers tried so hard to get the poster to provide more information.

...sometimes I suspect that DU is being trolled in the other direction. Rather than posts that are intended to get us excited I am very wary of posts that seem to want to reassure us. The "My relative/neighbor/co-worker,etc. who usually votes Republican..." threads have got my spider senses tingling. I imagine some of them are legit--and considering how truly awful Trump is, they all should be legit--but something about some of them doesn't sit right with me. I am not calling out any particular DUers and I am willing to accept that it could be paranoia on my part. Just had to get it off my chest.
