Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) said on Friday that he will not support confirming a Supreme Court nominee before the November election.
"I regret that I will not support the confirmation of any Supreme Court justice nominee, regardless of who it might be ... before the outcome of the Nov. 3 election has been determined," Jones said in a Facebook Live event.
Jones appeared to leave the door open to supporting a nominee during the lame-duck session, if a winner has been settled, adding that if President Trump wins reelection he would "evaluate any pending or future nominee on their merits and vote for or against the nomination based on that nominee's qualifications."
"I will certainly give that nominee a careful consideration and full and fair hearing after the election if Donald Trump is reelected," said Jones, who is not a member of the Judiciary Committee, which is charged with approving judicial picks before they receive a vote from the full Senate.

(7,419 posts)The graph I saw placed him just right of center. It would have never been enough for Alabama voters.
I mean he's a civil rights hero who BARELY beat a guy who was basically a child molester.
That's how messed up politics is in Alabama.
He never had a chance, and he is a decent guy who deserves better.

(7,419 posts)The guy who will beat him in November is an utter joke of a candidate. So stupid, he didn't even secure a domain with his own name so Doug Jones' folks grabbed it and used it against the opponent.
Go to this link -- tommytuberville.com -- and watch the videos. It is stunning how gullible Alabamians can be. Stunning.
As an Auburn University alum, I distinctly remember when Tuberville was picked as Auburn's new coach in late 1998. I was crestfallen because he was such a transparent used car salesman of a coach. In the following years, all my misgivings were underscored by his behavior and actions.
He's an inveterate liar. He's lazy and greedy. He's completely untrustworthy.
In Tuberville's course to this election, one thing is clear: he has no respect for Alabamians. Like a consummate grifter, he has the ability to recognize an easy mark and he has obviously circled the general population of this state as such. Sadly, this state has done nothing to prove him wrong.
This is the reason I get so irritated by Alabamians who claim to be victims of poor stereotypes. From centuries of evidence, those who defy the stereotypes are the outliers, not the norm. It's all right there in front of us.
