Dominionism is the theocratic idea that regardless of theological camp, means, or timetable, God has called conservative Christians to exercise dominion over society by taking control of political and cultural institutions. The term describes a broad tendency across a wide swath of American Christianity. People who embrace this idea are referred to as dominionists.
Dominionists celebrate Christian nationalism, in that they believe that the United States once was, and should once again be, a Christian nation. In this way, they deny the Enlightenment roots of American democracy.
Dominionists promote religious supremacy, insofar as they generally do not respect the equality of other religions, or even other versions of Christianity.
Dominionists endorse theocratic visions, insofar as they believe that the Ten Commandments, or biblical law, should be the foundation of American law, and that the U.S. Constitution should be seen as a vehicle for implementing biblical principles.
This is just as much of a threat to our democracy as fascism is. We should not turn backs on Bill Barr. He's made reference in speeches that Americans need to toe the line when it comes to his version of the old testament.

(36,484 posts)Years ago Jack Cafferty did a short segment on them & he was genuinely concerned. He said we need to learn more about these people & keep an eye on them. He read some viewer comments later in the hour & the people were also concerned. Then there was Wolf Blitzer, whose show this segment was on, and I'm not sure he even understood what was being discussed. I don't think CNN ever did a special on the dominionists. It's frowned on to question religion, at least any Christian religion. These people are whack jobs & do not abide by the live and live code. You believe the way they do, live the way they do, or they'll kill you. That's their plan. I have a few in my family that I think verge on this type of Christianity. I avoid them all.

They would be better served reading the Declaration of Independence--All men are created equal, and endowed with inalienable rights.
