Also, as a federal employee, who is reminded weekly from the first of each year until the due date of the return, if I don’t file or file a fraudulent return, it is grounds for immediate dismissal and possibly criminal charges. We all sign the jurat on our returns under penalties of fraud and perjury. If we have a balance due it had better be paid in full before the due date, even if you filed for an extension. And if you can’t pay you had better get an agreed installment or payment plan in place ASAP. And all of this has to be reported to your supervisor.

I once made an honest $200.00 error on my return and you had better believe I had paid that $200.00 before the return had been processed. And I still had to report the error and fill out forms to explain. All before the due date. IRS don’t play with government employees and the last time I check, The Orange Mussolini is on our payroll.
