That's why NONE of his multiple scandals stick. He represent payback to Liberals who they blame for their failures and frustrations in life.

(95,264 posts)But they need his unifying focus for power, he welds them into a whole, and that whole is dependent on him for continued existence as a power.
He is like the gem the wizard must have to activate his death ray --- the work is all shaped and in place, only it needs that dark diamond heart to focus it all into the deadly beam.
He seems to be cracking under the strain of it....

(7,869 posts)they don't hate him...they love him...he hates who they hate..he took their hate out of the shadows and into the White House...he normalized and legitimized their venom ...they brandish their guns at BLM protests, scream the N-word, march with torches shouting "Jews will not replace us", they assault gays, Hispanics and Asians...all of this without fear of reprisal and they thank Trump for "freeing them"...as for blaming Libs...they hate the Libs for embracing and championing the very people they hate...we're the traitors...

(8,299 posts)To paraphrase "Newty", many of them recognize that Trump may not be a conservative, but he's an anti-liberal.
They know Trump drives us nuts and that's what drives them.

(16,862 posts)He's been accused of some pretty awful shit and evidence has been found for some of it, but they haven't blinked yet.
Would murder do it? Look at the deaths from Covid. Rape? Many women have come forward. Child molestation? I don't know, but he stared at the girls backstage at the teen pageant. Treason? Hostile nations are backing him.
As long as he's owning the libs, I don't think he can sink too low. We have a lot of very disturbed people in our midst.

Sugarcoated
(7,736 posts)winner! Add to that eight years of brutal non stop propaganda of how "evil" and "illegitimite" President Obama was and the twisting of absolutely everything. RW media have been calling Democrats "the enemy" for going on 30 years.
Straw Man
(6,626 posts)The first step in any totalitarian's scheme is the destruction of faith in the press. He played that note so loudly and incessantly that he has become, to his followers, the sole purveyor of truth, the owner of reality. All else to them is lies and illusion.

Here Peter Lorre's slimey character Ugarte trusts Bogart's Rick just because he would despise him (if Rick gave him any thought, that is-LOL).

(14,861 posts)And no, there isn't any conflict with their other religious beliefs there. The Bible is stuffed with stories of utterly depraved and horrible men, whom God favored and blessed, and put into positions of great power. Just like Trump.

(8,092 posts)100%. Tom Friedman was on Chris Cuomo a few weeks ago and that's exactly what he said. I've heard many others say that as well. It's their hate that bonds them and he's their dear leader. "Crooked Hillary"...Yea, right. Nothing HAS EVER been charged against her and they've been trying since the early 90's. His mean "special names" for his rivals is something third graders would say: Sleepy Joe, Shifty Shift....Unbelievable...

(3,635 posts)He trolled the first black president who represented the 'new diverse America' - one they view as a threat - and thus Trump became their hero.
So for them it's not really about Trump's past/resume/etc - but about the fact that they view him as a crusader against liberalism. He also has delivered for them bigtime on placing right-wing judges in the courts, 3 on scotus when all is said and done.
But that is his core base which is about 30% of the electorate. The scandals and his poor record as president do hurt him with moderates and swing voters (see the 2018 blue wave) especially in a polarized country where presidential elections are decided by small margins.
