Until you realize that his overt racism is why he is keeping his 42% approval.

(17,865 posts)Won't vote for Trump, but won't vote for Biden-Harris because we have already had a n----er President, and she doesn't want a n----er woman. My language was not that prudent (racist bi__h comes to mind but I held my tongue).

(4,175 posts)Nope. The people who still support that worthless sack of unknown orange goo are racists, gun nutz, bigots, misogynists, KKK members, White Power advocates and of coulrs, Nazis.
Never in my life did I believe there were so many racists in this country. I guess I was living in my blue-state bubble.

I too thought we had turned a corner with the election of Pres Obama. Boy was I wrong.

(4,462 posts)... always there. Im a white male living in the Deep South. Anecdotal instances of individual racism had become much less overt from 1990 through 2008. It was considered uncouth. But Obamas election triggered a change. I bet I heard racial epithets in polite conversations more in 2008 alone than I had for the 20 preceding years. I think the license to express that racism arose as a backlash to the election of a black president.
Eight years later Тяцмр poured gasoline on it and it burst into the raging idiocy we see in the cult today.

(652 posts)okay among his followers. Even, in ReThugVille, politically correct.
I am so glad I am a Democrat, and so are my 4 children. I took delight in answering my R-Husband's phone and answering a biased robo-questionnaire. It was obviously loaded for pro-tRumpers. Had to wait thru all the tRump positives to get to the Biden positives for each question. Luckily, when my husband answers, he just hangs up.
This is how my husband thinks. He said he will vote for tRump because all the protests are Biden's fault. I told him to think on this: The protests are legal, the problems are caused by the sitting president -- the buck can't stop at someone who is not in power. He disagreed. And yes, my husband is not a deep thinker at all, so there is no real point in discussing politics with him. Nothing ever changes his mind.
We have separated, not due to politics per se, but due to incompatibility in many areas, including politics. After 31 years of marriage, it is about 26 years past time. I have a good reason -- I have a fast growing cancer, and husband is extremely lax about following Covid-19 guidelines. He has decided he won't get it, and that is that. On the off chance this narcissist may be thinking about my life insurance policy I long ago changed the beneficiary from him to my children.

(3,384 posts)People may not be openly racist, may even downplay it in public, but behind the mask lies a well of racism, xenophobia, and misogyny. It runs so very deep in our country.
