Just saw on ABC news a car that just about drives itself.

Would you be in favor of a car that is driving with no input from the driver?

I'm kind of leery of it.

I was at a corporate training school and the folks in the class had a couple of loaner cars we shared. We called the Aspen "the Brown Bomb".

I love to drive. And the thought that my safety is to be in the hands of some programmer (I'm a programmer, btw) who wrote software which, face it, will be designed to accommodate the earning schedules of insurance companies, gives me the heebie geebies.

However, I see a time in the not-so-distant future, where we won't be ALLOWED to drive our cars ourselves, except perhaps in sporting events. And that time will come long before the software and other controls are anywhere near reliable enough to warrant that handover of control.

If I can away from excessive traffic and find a quiet back road, driving remains one of my guilty pleasures. Turn the music up to unacceptable levels and just drive! Great for clearing the mind.

If it truly works safely, I would love it! In fact, for years I've been hoping it could be developed, thinking that it could ultimately save lives. I live in an extremely small town in a very rural area, and I'm very aware that my driving skills are not adequate to handle traffic in many of the larger cities across our nation. However; I would love to travel more, and would be delighted to have a car that could safely sense the position of other vehicles, avoid traffic accidents, and drive me anywhere I choose to go. I'm not sure that I'd want to be the first to try it out, but if it were perfected, it would be a dream come true for me to have one! As a woman, I'm already thinking of the time I could save by being able to do my makeup as I travel!

He's tried one of these cars and was very excited about the possibility of being able to drive again.
