The Constitution says a presidents pardon power is unlimited except in cases of impeachment..
Trumps plan if he loses will be to either attempt a self-pardon (which is arguably illegal, in that you cant be your own judge) or to resign so Pence can pardon him. If hes under impeachment for tax evasion, money laundering, fomenting insurrection, 250,000 cases of negligent homicide, campaign finance violations, and whatever else we can hit him with, he cant be pardoned for those things.

(14,891 posts)It means a POTUS can't get rid of an impeachment via pardon.

(4,131 posts)It doesn't mean that he can't pardon while the House is discussing impeaching him or while the Senate is voting not to convict him.

(17,367 posts)Trumps pardon power was clearly not limited while he was previously under impeachment from the House, nor would it be after November.
This clause means that the presidents pardon power does not allow him to end or reverse impeachment proceedings, nothing more.

I don't see the value of us speculating when we need to KEEP CALM and GET OUT THE VOTE.

(17,463 posts)The same assholes in the Senate would continue to protect him.
We have to vote him out, and let his legal chips fall where they fall. New York wants him, let them have him. The only way he can remain invulnerable once out of office is to flee the country.
