The Georgetown Law Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection has created fact sheets for all 50 states, explaining the laws barring unauthorized private militia groups, and WHAT TO DO if groups of armed individuals are near a polling place or voter registration drive. There is a simple drop down menu so you can choose your state to view the corresponding fact sheet.

(32,626 posts)print out a whole bunch of copies and leave them places, like with magazines at doctors offices, shopping carts, community bulletin boards. In the days of Covid, and with the years gone by, no longer an option, plus where we live...unless the cows turn into militias we're good.

(94,703 posts)They have no authority, any more than any other voting observer, and have to stay outside the 50-100 ft line (depending on the State) from the polls. If they block the polling site access or threaten people with weapons, call the police.

(296 posts)And it is illegal to harass or attempt to intimidate voters at the polls. These fools are under no command but Trump is giving them the idea he can and is sanctioning them to scare voters. That what they are trying to do. Ignoring them is like giving them a green light. They will continue this in growing numbers. Maybe for this election Governors can call out the National Guard to protect polling stations

Im still voting from home, and plan to drop my ballot in the collection box at the County complex within 24 hours of receiving it in the mail.

Are you SURE your staff is not magical?

(66,446 posts)We vote by mail in Washington State. I actually drop my ballot off at the drop-box at the public library. No one in any of the elections since vote-by-mail started has either attempted to prevent me from submitting my ballot, or tried to impersonate an elections official saying "I'll take care of that ballot for you" or some other such gambit designed to prevent the ballot from getting where it is going.

Others will have to record them for their proud families and employers to see. And of course, for law enforcement, as well as attorneys with Democratic and civil rights groups.
