Statement from the Commission on Presidential debates just now:

KRUGMAN: Aha. It looks as if they *will* introduce a Cone of Silence that can be dropped on Trump ...

CPD Statement
September 30, 2020
The Commission on Presidential Debates sponsors televised debates for the benefit of the American electorate. Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues. The CPD will be carefully considering the changes that it will adopt and will announce those measures shortly. The Commission is grateful to Chris Wallace for the professionalism and skill he brought to last night’s debate and intends to ensure that additional tools to maintain order are in place for the remaining debates.

A lot of us think about it or get mad, but don't ever do anything about it (like me).

It's still very important to send your feedback.

The fact that they didn’t have a mike cut-off switch available to the moderator or production crew for the last debate doesn’t inspire confidence.

It’s an extremely easy solution. They could have instituted it during a commercial break.

And people are wary of pissing off presidential candidates, particularly fascist ones, as they have the power to take massive revenge.

if you don't agree to a mic cut after two warnings, there will be no more debates. Trump will cave in, as he needs the free air time.

It won't impact Joe in the slightest.

It is disgraceful that American politics has been reduced to this level, but it has been reduced because of Trump and the Reputincans.

Because if they do this, it takes all the onus off Biden (where it doesn't belong) to insist on a more orderly process, and it's very likely that Trump will be the one who'll decide to drop about of the debates if he isn't allowed to run completely roughshod over the process, ignoring any rule he wishes to ignore.
