I think all election ballots should be the same style in every jurisdiction. Election rules and procedures should be the same in every state to avoid confusion. Dates for registration and ballot deadlines etc. should be uniform across all states. The elections should be run by individual counties and states but they all should use the same format. I believe "election rigging " would be lessened as would the numerous lawsuits plaguing many areas. If we can all use the same income tax forms I really do not understand why our elections must be so fraught with confusion and argument!

(13,386 posts)Confusing voting and gerrymandering because they know they'll never win an honest election.
When Biden wins we need
to shore up the post office take out the republicans poison pill, funding retirement 70 years in advance bullshit and make it's basic functional capacity untouchable by law,and keep for profit people from ever touching it.
Remove gerrymandering by law.
Than do all mail in ballots without excuses or request bullshit.
Send a ballot to each person.
Lastly get rid of the electoral college..
And declare a voting day a holiday.

(16,670 posts)IIRC the US constitution says that elections are organized by the state, so uniform election laws is a state-vs-federal legal issue.

(43,049 posts)We cast votes for three federal offices-- House, Senate, and White House.
We also vote for state and local legislators, mayors, supervisors, prosecutors, judges, highway superintendents, sheriffs, trustees, clerks, and whomever I can't think of right now.
And there are also those unreadable propositions on the back of the ballot.
So, if we were to have any attempt at uniform federal election laws, we would first have to have separate federal and state ballots.
Imagine the fight to get all 50 states (maybe 52 by then) to agree to it.

(9,263 posts)for voting. The only time the Federal GOvt can get into this is cases of discrimination type stuff, Now that doesn ;t mean a the Govt can;t have a guidline AND use the stick and carrot approach in same manner that Federal Highway fund were held back to force states to lower speed limit to 55 years ago. The same could be done with voting. Simply put out a guide line and must be adopted ot all Federal monies withheld from the state except disaster aid,
entire south depends on the big federal programs for funding them so let them decide to abide or put taxes on their people

(41,108 posts)Our system in Colorado is great! WE not only have early voting, we have mail in voting option for ALL elections. You can register to vote through Election day. You can register to vote online or at the DMV & of course at the County Clerk & Recorder's office. You can sign up for text messages to alert you when your ballot has been mailed to you & when it is received back at the Elections Division. You can mail your ballot, or you can drop it off at Clerk's office or at special ballot drop-off boxes that are located at places like the library.
Even though voting laws/regs are at the state level, it benefits the entire nation for the states to standardize the ballot and process. But until then, here's a great source to find out your state's laws.
