He had a form of cholera and died within 2 days.
Prior to that was William Henry Harrison in 1841 from pneumonia.
The rest of the deaths are assassinations and heart attacks.
The last president to die in office was Kennedy in 1963.

(27,698 posts)...to say that someone didn't die of an "illness" because they had a heart attack. Isn't heart disease an illness? Anyway, the usual distinction is death by natural causes versus unnatural ones like assassinations or, say, automobile accidents or plane crashes. By that standard, FDR was the last to die in office from natural causes.
