By dropping out for two weeks does he stop the bleeding? As it is he will need the same type of anomaly that happens in 2016 to win. Maybe even more of anomaly if you look at the polls in other states. So to keep this from being a full blown landslide, maybe it's best for him to quit campaigning. And maybe it helps down ticket races.

This gives him cover to do that.
