The "rapid test" for Covid-19

Dr. Vin Gupta on MSNBC says this test is trash. He said it is unreliable, gives false results, and should be disregarded. He said it should not be used.

This is the test Sen. Tillis says came back positive. He needs to take the more reliable test to confirm his status.

2. From other countries COVID response, they actually do both the rapid and the more accurate test

So you have some preliminary data to use while you wait for the accurate test results. I don't think we have to completely get rid of the rapid test, but it also shouldn't be your only data point.

That seems to be the same case with Trump and Biden. Trump had his rapid result last night and started quarantining while waiting for the accurate test result. Once he confirmed with the accurate one, he announced it. Biden did the same and hence why he said he got 2 tests today.

4. The bigger issue is they tend to have false negatives

I would assume that if the rapid test came out positive, the standard procedure is to VERIFY with a PCR test and THEN announce, and that is most likely what happened here. This event happened last Saturday and we know that Hicks tested positive Wednesday and probably got her own PCR test that confirmed it and started the cascade of reporting and testing by others.

The general incubation for COVID can be anywhere between 3 days to 2 weeks. This is has been repeated over and over and over and over for the past 6 months. Depending on how much of a viral load the body was exposed to, one could have early symptoms that fly you off the cliff a few days after, or it may take a couple weeks to have any type of low-grade symptom.

The Health Dir. here in Philly has been vociferously resisting calls to use those types of tests because they are still not reliable - at least at this early stage in their existence.

7. We need real leadership or we're never going to get out of this thing.

If Trump somehow gets reelected, better get used to the virtual world because you're never going to see the real one again. The fact that Trump was such a fucking idiot and put himself and stadiums full of people in jeopardy just asserts that we have no real leadership plan right now.
