Tonight there are doctors and nurses bustling about the room of a fat old man with thin stringy hair, splotchy skin, a scowling mouth, and puffy eye slits.
No fancy comb-over, no spray tan, no super-long tie to hide his gut. A hospital gown that barely covers his ass, maybe. Hooked up to IV's and monitors.
Just an evil fool who thought he was more than he was.

(22,685 posts)I was envisioning it myself - without pity. He's not, today, ready to have the truth encroach. But I think it is coming. I think he will be very sick soon but never, ever, will he be able to think of the others and how he helped kill them. He will only be able to contemplate his own misery.
I do hope very much hope Covid does NOT get him. WE will if we are given the chance.
That is why I'm praying - in my own way - to have him spared.

He began to believe he was invincible. I thought maybe he already had it, and figured he wouldn't catch it again.
But nope.

(60,186 posts)This one doesn't seem worth a remake, at least not yet. It'll be old news by the time we got it done.

In just a few hours, he's gone from controlling everything to controlling almost nothing in his life.

(72,187 posts)Its that he very likely has crippling productivity goals. Very few medical providers own their own practices anymore. We mostly work for large organizations, which demand a large number of patient visits a day, to maximize profits.
Even non-profit organizations like the one I work for are constantly demanding more patient visits per day. It can be pretty stressful. We all want to spend more time with our patients. And its just not possible.
Just yesterday, I had a new patient who hadnt received regular care for decades, and thought he could make up for it by getting everything done in one go. I got as much done for him as I could, but long after his allotted time was up, he kept saying One more thing!...
I had to plead with him that we would address his other issues at his next visit. Its not fun, and I dont like having to tell patients Our time is up. But thats the reality of modern clinical medicine.

I don't care how fancy his suite is, I hope he's suffering greatly (or bigly) and is scared shitless.

(1,400 posts)who or whatever you were in your life, at the end, all i ever saw was how many ppl were gathered around your bedside and whether or not they were crying.
not all of them were. some were fighting w each other, some were looking at their watches, and some wanted to tell me stories about you.
more revealing than the mourners at your funeral.

(16,985 posts)And no, that doesn't make me a good daughter-in-law. My mil passed away two weeks before the wedding and we married 6 months after meeting each other. I had met her once. I was on the rebound. He was at National Guard summer camp and didn't get back in time. The numerous relatives spent the time talking about whether they should call the doctor or not.
Father in law died a year later. This time, my ex was in the huddle discussing whether they should call the doctor or not.

(785 posts)You know it's gonna happen. A pic of him being hauled in a wheelchair hooked up to oxygen and IV's. Someone will probably risk their job though, but it'll get out eventually.
