This brave young man was most likely a college student. In recent years Denton has really grown and by & large is now considered a suburb of the DFW area. It is only half an hour from where my sister lives in Lewisville. It has 2 major universities - University of North TX and TX Women's University. Given that fact & its proximity to DFW it is becoming more & more liberal.

The thuggish idiot that hurt the young man will be prosecuted.

the school's diverse environment suits her.
I also have nieces & nephews who've attended the school and they're all very liberal. It may not have been in the past but in recent years it's definitely more liberal.
