Does Pence move up to the top spot and select a running mate? Does the GOP select a new candidate? What happens to the ballots of all the people that already voted for Trump?

And if they do like the Vikings they would burn Pence too.

(98,883 posts)30 days from election, the election proceeds as is
If Biden wins, the electors vote Biden in as President
If trump wins, and cannot serve the electors would choose the next republican president

(129,722 posts)If Trump croaks Pence automatically becomes president per the Constitution, but it doesn't mean he's automatically the GOP's candidate for president. The GOP would have to officially select a candidate, which wouldn't necessarily have to be Pence, and that candidate would get the votes cast for the Trump/Pence ticket because it's too late to change the ballots.

(175 posts)I visit here only occasionally so obviously I don't see all the threads. But your answer doesn't ring true to me. There would be people that voted for Trump/Pence that would not have voted for whoever the GOP puts up to replace Trump. What are you basing your answer on?

Early voting is underway, with more than 2.2 million votes cast, according to the U.S. Elections Project at the University of Florida. The deadline to change ballots in many states has also passed; mail ballots, which are expected to be widely used due to the coronavirus pandemic, have been sent to voters in two dozen states.
Unless Congress delays the election, voters would still choose between the Republican Trump and Democrat Joe Biden even if one died before Nov. 3.
It gets stickier if the winner dies after the election, but that wasn't the question.

The party can name another candidate. It would probably be Pence. Its probably too late for ballots to be updated in most places.

(3,334 posts)You vote for the parties members of the Electoral College. So if he dies, the party picks someone else for the members to vote for.
