People that suffer from COVID are often stable and not in bad shape then suddenly take a nose-dive. There's a fairly well documented timeline for that to happen.

You can be fine and 12 hours later be intubated. In other words, "he is doing well, but the next 48 hours are critical." Makes perfect sense.

Whether it's accurate as far as the claim goes that he *is* doing well at the time the statement was made is a separate issue.
