Ireland : NPHET, the COVID Advisory Group advise Ireland move to the highest level of restrictions.

NPHET has recommended the highest level of restrictions for the entire country, Level 5, in a letter sent to Government.
It is expected that the three party leaders in Government will seek a meeting with Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan to discuss the letter. The recommendation is that the country could be put on Level 5 for up to four weeks.

There is much shock and surprise in Government at the recommendation and a view that no country has taken this approach except Israel, where the situation was worse. There is no planned Cabinet meeting today, but the Covid-19 oversight group, which comprises Ireland's top civil servants, will examine the NPHET proposal. A lengthy NPHET meeting held to discuss the deteriorating Covid-19 situation took place, chaired by Dr Holohan.

Primary teachers' union the INTO said that should the country be taken to Level 5 this week, it wants an immediate review of the public health landscape for schools. It said such a review must determine if it is safe for schools to stay open. The Department of Health was notified of 364 more cases of Covid-19 and no new deaths yesterday. There has now been a total of 38,032 confirmed cases in Ireland, and 1,810 deaths. Of the latest cases notified, 195 are men and 168 are women, while 74% of the cases are in people under 45 years of age.

The department said 27% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case. It said that 42 of the new cases have been identified as community transmission. On the regional breakdown, 100 of the cases are in Dublin, while 55 are in Cork and 31 in Donegal. There were 24 cases reported in Limerick, 23 in Galway, 17 in Clare, 14 in Sligo, 13 in Roscommon, ten in Kerry, eight in Tipperary, eight in Wicklow, seven in Kildare, six in Kilkenny, six in Offaly, six in Cavan, five in Mayo, five in Meath, with the remaining 27 cases in nine counties.

This spike in cases, adjusted for relative population, is less than 60% of what we’ve become numb to as a steady-state rate of new cases in the US. With zero new deaths reported in this story, it’s harder to compare death rates (because it probably isn’t 0 every day recently), but that’s got to be much lower than the US.

The reason they’re considering drastic measures again is that they haven’t been programmed by a madman and his followers to the point where a large chunk of the population accepts so much sickness and death as the price of doing business.

that explanation.

Our Treasonous Murdering Madman is like a super Villain out of a James Bond Book. Only not sure Ian Fleming could make this shite up.

The "cost of doing business" Backfired on their Lethal Lies.. & still is.

occurs in schools, a fair proportion is brought in by the twenty something teachers who are going to house parties. Everything is relative though, our 38k total cases, is still less than the US in one day, but we had worked to keep it down, but there has definitely been slippage since the summer. The Head of NYPHET has just come back to his position as while he had been dealing with this, his wife is dying from cancer and is now receiving palliative care.

While they have advised going straight to Level 5, there is a belief that the Government might not go for that now, with the whole winter ahead, so they might for a nationwide Level 3 with bits of Level 5 like no visitors to anyone else's home etc.

If only Mainland USA could get a national co-ordinated policy, it would make a massive difference.

Yes, If only Hillary had "Won" the COVID Pandemic would be 180 degrees different. All about Reality instead of trump's head killing people off.

everywhere is definitely the sensible way to go. Part of the problem with the home visitors over the last 6 weeks here is that there have been a lot of Catholic Communions and Confirmations that were postponed from March-May, taking place. So you had a lot of family get togethers in the home, thus a relatively big spike in numbers. Just heard that the Government here have turned down the advice to move to Level 5, but look like they will move the entire country to level 3, maybe with some extra restrictions like no visitors to the home.

We live on a flight path too, and it is strange now to hear a plane overhead.
