I posted years ago about a friend who was on the Presidential Protection Detail ...

for George W. Bush. He's a strong Dem, and had nothing good to say about Bush, but he was a Secret Service agent first and foremost.
So when I flat-out asked him (after more than a couple of beers) he told me, and I quote, "I'd take a bullet for the SOB in a heartbeat, because that's my job".
So I checked in with him this morning, and asked for his opinion about Lard Ass forcing his Secret Service detail to share a hermetically sealed vehicle in order to allow Trump to go wave at his fans.
He paused for an inordinately long time before replying, "Of course I would have done it. But I never would have forgotten how little regard that fucker has for the men and women who would die to protect him."
Kind of says it all

What he said then was professional and respectful.

I'm glad he's no longer in the Service. He doesn't deserve the scorn Trump has for his protective detail.

It's something different to take that bullet because the president was showing off with his new pistol.

The Covid-19 bullet, on the other hand?

You take that bullet, you can take it home and kill your family and your friends.

I feel so badly for all of the people who have to work with him. I would walk off the job before I would put up with one second of what he's doing to everyone. But that's just me.

He probably hated the man's politics, as do all of us, but everything I read said that the Bushes treated the Secret Service quite well, as did the Obamas.

It's sad that Trump is so awful he makes Bush look not as bad by comparison. W did terrible things as president, things we are still paying for as a country, but I don't think he was an utterly horrible human being with no redeeming qualities like Trump.

Timothy McCarthy, was also a Democrat.

And the surgeon who operated on Reagan was a liberal Democrat.

An ex-in law is retired Secret Service. At a family reunion many years ago a few male relatives were badgering him with "Is it true" questions about Hillary. You know the stories, especially Fox and Rush Limbaugh were pushing even before she ran for president swearing the tales came from Secret Service. Did she really do this, is it true the agents can't stand her, etc. He always insisted they get along with all their protectees. He said the protectees would never trust them with their lives if they leak stories of what they were like in private.
