That would be an understandable tactic to hide shortness of breath. I have my fair share of little tricks so I don't look like I'm about to pass out. Of course, he wouldn't have had that problem if he'd stayed in the hospital until he was well enough to go home.

... since I had a neighbor with severe emphysema from years of smoking.

I bought an oxygen sensor early this year, before there was a run on them, after remembering that poor guy who was always wearing one. And who eventually died the last time an ambulance showed up at his door late at night.
