And I love to cuss, specifically because it is healthy, but there’s a time and a place and an age where it is permissible. I brought up my son and acquired my nephew when he was 12 or 13. It was a challenge from the beginning because he cussed a lot. The reason he cussed a lot was because his vocabulary was so limited that his go to words when he was trying to express himself were cuss words. It was NOT easy, because I chose to be patient about it and not punitive, but it worked.

The reason I think it’s not a good idea is because it will stunt their use of other words and it will stunt their ability to express their thoughts.

I like to reserve my best swear words for special occasions, they have more impact that way. Swearing too much can become a bad habit. Pretty soon, it replaces a lot of more appropriate and effective words.

I've been around some people who swear all the time and it ends up bringing other people down. Meanwhile, I live in an in-law apartment and I spend a lot of time with my five year old grandsons. I am very careful what I say around them and I don't want them to pick up any inappropriate words from the TV. If the news is on when they come in, I quickly hit pause or turn it off.

Of course, most of my swearing these days is at the TV!!!
