Hurricane Delta has rapidly intensified in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to hammer Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula by Wednesday. Delta continues to pose a hurricane danger to the U.S. Gulf Coast late this week, with threats of storm-surge flooding, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
Residents from the extreme upper Texas coast and Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle should be checking frequently for important forecast updates and have their hurricane plans ready to go.

(297,936 posts)when this is over - get out of the way folks
It was amazing to see this move from TD to TS to hurricane yesterday just South of us- just beginning to clear up here.- lots of flooding, roads blocked and bridges down.

(12,047 posts)of course that could change once it gets into GOM, and Gamma is still out there mixing things up!
TWC predicting Cat 4/ Cat 5 in open water, then weakening as it nears shore, as it runs into shear, we'll see
But a weather guy I knew says "the ocean has a long memory", a Cat 4/5 will bring a huge dome of storm surge along with it, even as winds are reduced
Louisiana can't take another hurricane -so glad it will weaken. And yes the surge is still a problem.

(970 posts)I just texted my daughter to update her. Her boyfriend lives in the Florida panhandle and recently went through the last hurricane. She told me they had talked this morning and he is coming up to stay with us this time. Thank goodness. We were worried for him.
I had no idea it had become a Category 4. Thank you so much.

(6,131 posts)We gassed up yesterday, bought food today and extra propane, refills on meds, etc. This storm is looking similar to Sally that just took aim at our community from Orange Beach, AL to a bit east of Pensacola Beach. Storm clean up continues and many have not even gotten word on insurance claims from Sally me included. Our roof has been weakened so another storm of 100mph + will probably finish it off. We dont wish this storm on anyone but we are not really ready to do it again. Guess we have no choice. If it comes our way, well hunker down and hold on. We are in no danger of storm surge, by the way. We live well away from the beach and areas prone to flooding in town.
