Former first lady Michelle Obama tore into President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis in a live video Tuesday, calling Trump’s pandemic leadership “willful mismanagement” and “negligence.”

“We simply cannot trust this president to tell us the truth about anything,” Obama said in her “Closing Argument,” a nearly 25-minute appeal to Americans to vote for Democratic nominee Joe Biden over Trump in next month’s presidential election.

“The worst part is it didn’t have to be like this,” Obama said of the more than 210,000 coronavirus-linked deaths in the United States. “So many other countries aren’t experiencing this level of extended suffering and uncertainty.”

She continued:

These countries were hit by the same virus as we were. They had the same kind of resources to contain it as we did. But what they didn’t have to contend with was this president ...

A man who knew how deadly this virus is but who lied to us and told us it would just disappear. Who, in the greatest crisis of our lifetimes, doubled down on division and resentment, railed against measures that could have mitigated the damage and continues to hold massive events without requiring masks or social distancing, knowingly exposing his own supporters to a dangerous virus.

22. My confession about Michelle

I love her. I love her voice. In these so stressful times, on nights that I'm having trouble sleeping, I take her audiobook to bed with me and I go to sleep with her voice in one of my ears. Her voice is so soothing. It feels like I have a friend in the bedroom with me and I feel safe. I can never find the exact spot that I fell asleep at so I start again at all kind of random spots.

And I love how she has been having fun trying out so many different hairstyles now that the spotlight isn't so hot and judging any longer.

... but I think the Repukes will treat Michelle and Kamala the same way they treated Hillary in 2016.

It makes me sick to think about how Hillary was treated. That's what Repukes do, they disrespect everyone, especially women. They hate it when a woman presents herself as a leader and a person of achievement and intelligence. THOSE are the women they go after with zeal. Kamala and Michelle are Women of Color as well!

25. Yay, Michelle! Interesting, as I started watching...

"taking the gloves off"
It's a term relative to a person's personality, sometimes I forget that.

So watching our smart, elegant, empathetic (former) First Lady... (*thinks*) ok.. she looks slightly angry esp for minutes at a time - that's (imho) barely ever happened for maybe even a few seconds. (*thinks* OK, that's her version/level of "gloves off" )
Of course, she listed off the actions, or non actions of Trump that have made us angry, sad, despairing...

Oh, but then...
She gave a nuanced, detailed, deeply poignant litany of experiences, and feelings of living while black here in a still racist America. Then extending a sort of a spiritual "hand" to racist white Americans - to look again, reexaimine their feelings in the face of the truth that most black Americans are as hard working, family loving etc people just like them.

That was like a Zen gloves off. Like (is it Buddhist) the image of water going flowing into, through places nothing else can get through.
