Instead of a sympathy factor for Trump, there's been a stunning drop in his poll numbers

In two days of polling before Trump got COVID, the president trailed Biden by just a 46%-41% margin. In the three days of polling after the coronavirus diagnosis, Biden held a 55%-34% lead. That means Biden’s lead grew by a whopping 16 points from pre-COVID to post-COVID.

Personally, I think Trump's debate performance was a huge turnoff to a lot of his supporters, people who hadn't been paying a lot of attention and suddenly saw Trump for who he is.

He’s a one trick pony, anytime his BS hurts him he just double, triples down. He is literally incapable of changing. Keep digging fuck stick.

You know not long ago you didn’t see people throwing the F-word around on DU, but now it’s pretty common. Congrats Donny dumb shit, you continue to sink lower and drag everyone with you.

He has not shown an ounce of compassion, empathy, or sympathy for anyone over the last 4 years. Now that he is sick, why should he expect people to show HIM any of those qualities?

In Trump World, being compassionate is weak. The people are just treating him the way he treats others. The Golden (Shower) Rule

Merely correlated.
The debate did damage to PINO.
The uptick in COVID did damage.
Biden's advertising covering his health & tax plans started running in a big way and likely resonated.
Protests have become decreasingly contentious & violent, so the "law & order" thing isn't gaining traction.
Then PINO got COVID, a bunch of people near it did too, so it's a factor.
It appears it's one of five components that all occurred pretty close to the same time.
Lastly, the 46-41 was suspiciously narrow at the time. The aggregates weren't that close, but an outlier poll narrowed it more than it should have been.
I find it hard to believe it ever narrowed to a 5 point margin, with 13% undecided.
So, the lead has widened, but by less than described and 5 factors all came into play in one polling interval.

Rhetorically speaking: If he cannot protect himself and the WH, how can he protect the rest of the country?

(yes even though he has done a shitty job of protecting the country)

some noise is being made about bandwagonning ( folks want to cheer for the winning team) I dont know the facts on that

But, I think most who think that way are like us. We weren't voting for him anyway. We already knew his cavalier approach was killing people.
But, madman on TV was on every news channel & newspaper. Remember that, even using their own phony ratings numbers, only around 15% of voters listen to rwnj radio. Most people still get their news from TV and papers. Stand back & stand by is a scary message for the law & order guy to send. That was all over the news. There was little positive press for PINO after the debate.
Also, recall that the COVID diagnosis is when help for Americans broke bad.
And, most Americans don't agree with rushing through a scotus nominee. But, they're doing it anyway, at the expense of the american people.
I think the biggest effect of his COVID diagnosis was the steroid induced manic episode we've been seeing since Saturday.
He got free TV, and his odds of winning went down!
Not only no sympathy bump, but an increasing deficit.
I get that COVID has people jittery. We all know why, too. It's pretty darned bad.
But, I think that's at least #5 on the why question.

returning to the White House after being buried in the Walter Reed Hospital for 3 days, and then symbolically pulling off his mask (burial shroud) didn't have the result Trump expected.
He looked like a pathetic old man pulling a publicity stunt to get sympathy and jump start his dying campaign.

He looked weak standing there in full Mussolini pose, with thumbs up and fist pump gestures.
It was quite sad.
