Trump probably has some innate sociopathic faults, but people like Peale surely magnified them.

I saw some of Peale's writings in the "library" of my parents' books when I was a kid, and I was told they had belonged to my older sister when she was a teenager. I looked through them briefly, but never read them.

That same sister became the evangelical Christian extremist in my family, and she definitely only believes what she WANTS to believe. She has a very optimistic view about the world, which is pleasant in some ways, but she has also repeatedly demonstrated severe errors in judgement from being too divorced from evidence and reality in general.
