Wed Oct 7, 2020, 06:40 PM
Oct 2020

is that Pence sort of "cleans up" Trump's mess left by the last debate and/or helps normalize Trump and some of his policies. Pence is dull and sort of dumb but he cleans up well and won't be showing up spouting a bunch of conspiracy theories or talking over and interrupting Kamala. The main problem for him, I suppose, is that he will be put in a position of having to either defend Trump or repudiate him, which has got to be an unenviable place to be. My guess is that this debate will neither help or hurt either candidate much or really move anything. I have full confidence in Kamala to present herself well.

Honestly, the bar is so low for Pence, that if he doesn't curl up in a ball on the floor, people will say that he held his own. And on our side, they have been playing clips of her Senatorial committee questioning all day, so if she doesn't out-perform those moments, it will be anticlimactic.

I never watch a debate. We go to bed really early and I usually watch a british mystery (Midsomer Murders) and then at 9:30 I flip over to Daily Kos and watch some of the debate highlights. I usually fall asleep about half hour later. It doesn't make any difference, we've already voted by mail for Biden/Harris anyway.

But, seriously, no. Harris is really good on TV -- very sharp, very quick. Pence is also pretty good -- because he's an ex-radio talk show host who thinks nothing of lying. But, at worst, this will be a draw. At best, Harris will win going away.

...Mikey has the talk show host’s ability to come across as calm and reasonable, even when saying the most outrageous things. Kaine tried to go on the offense against him and just came off looking “mean” and “unlikable.” Harris will have to tread a very narrow path to avoid coming off as “overly aggressive and angry” on one hand, and letting him control the debate on the other.

He knows the deal he made with the devil. 4 years of hedging the truth, outright lying, being part of policy that defies basic scriptural ideals, like caging children, have had some effect.

His moral authority isn’t what he thinks it is anymore.

Wonder what Pence’s blood pressure is 90 minutes before the debate?

These idiots have screwed the pooch so badly over the last 7 days that even he knows prayer won’t save him. If anything he should be getting the picture that the “big guy” is a bit pissed at his boys. After all, it’s these evangelicals who are always blaming “gods wrath” on America via hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, terrorists, or whatever, because of gays & shit.

He’s having problems with the basic premise that he has to treat a woman as an equal for 90 minutes tonight. I guarantee you he cannot do it. It’s sticking in his craw even now. See he may have started out believing that he was doing higher good to get the courts, the laws, etc. but he’s been knee deep in trumps world now for almost 4 years. He has no honor to fall back on anymore, no real spiritual capital at all; he’s been compromising decency since day one. He’s thoroughly fouled, and I predict he is going to make a grievous error that reveals his inner intolerance, and he’ll even try to double down on it before it dawns on him exactly what it is he’s saying. He’s seen his boss do it hundreds of times.

Tonight you’re going to get to watch Mike Pence die inside on national television.

I think it will be a high quality draw. Pence has the type of unflappable style that works very well in debate setting.

If Susan Rice had been out there I would have anticipated this for months. She is extra special and would have framed the state of the race and nation in Hillary style and caliber.

Like I have said with regards to Trump, you can't go hard after Biden. You can certainly criticize his policy decisions, but Joe is super likeable and a good person. Kamala did, in my opinion, a good job with her arguments, but when she implied Biden's blind spots on race, they didn't land like people thought they might.

Pence is a different beast altogether. He is either a lapdog, or part of the problem. Either way, his wannabe folksy Indiana schtick is not going to save him. He is the vice president to a monster and Kamala will tie Trump around his neck.

The only concern I have is for Kamala's health being around the likely COVID carrying asshat.
