I am getting bold in my older age with starting threads!
Hoping this could be a common place to log proudly when we voted, and tales from the voting experience.
I will start - whoot, whoot! I voted to day - mail ballot but dropped off at voting site.
President Biden cannot come soon enough for me.

(35,145 posts)It was easy and uneventful. Austin is blue
with an excellent elections bureau chief,
Dana de Beauvoir.
They set up a drive-thru site in front of the
elections center and it was fantastic. There
was a steady stream of cars, and still it only
took me five minutes to vote.
I was also required to watch the clerk as she
stamped my ballot and dropped it in the ballot
box.
It feels good to know that my ballot is safe and
that my vote cannot be hacked because it is on
paper.
I cried off and on all the way home, it was such
a moving moment after four fucking years of hell!

(7,952 posts)I wish they'd just make October "voting month" because voting early absentee with *hundreds* of people in line at noon on a Tuesday went so much faster and more efficiently at the board of elections office on paper than it did at 6am before work on election day at the library with volunteers and touchscreens that confuse everyone.
There was also a constant stream of people dropping completed mail-in ballots in person at tents set up outside the election office.

(7,952 posts)This was a government office, we had to go through a metal-detector/x-ray/temperature checkpoint as well, and every single person I saw was in a mask unless they were just getting out of the car or getting into one in the parking lot. And like...one baby without a mask but that's not surprising.
Also, many PoC voting with a vengeance! I helped a family behind me convince their eight-year-old son that wearing a mask made you a superhero because you're protecting everyone!

(24,906 posts)My wife is out of town for a few days, and we have not received our voter guide yet. There's a lot of propositions on the California ballot with a lot of deceptive ads on TV about many of them. I'll wait for the voter guide which presents arguments for both sides of every proposition so I can make a more informed decision on the few I haven't decided yet.
I, of course will be voting for all democrats. The rub is that local elections like city council are officially non-partisan here and no party affiliation is listed with the candidates name. I'll probably stop by Democratic county headquarters and they can point out the Democratic candidates for us. In past years I've always dropped of my ballot a a polling place on election day. This year we will be taking our ballots directly to the Registrar of Voters. Easy to do since I live within walking distance. I'll do this as soon as I fill the ballot out.

(9,315 posts)I was being so careful too. I ended up going into City Hall for a new ballot. They had to void my first one, I then reapplied to vote absentee. I was then given a 2nd ballot. Went into the room with the stars and strips banners, nice effect, and chatted with the poll worker as I voted.
Put my ballot in the envelope and she informed me I did it wrong! I had to put it into the private envelop first. I knew that! So we fixed it and I finally put my ballot in the box.
Whew! what an ordeal and I know how to vote!

(2,300 posts)We're in Indiana where Governor Holcomb says, "No! Voting absentee is verboten! You must risk your life, unless you're Republican, in which case, it's just like the flu, you'll be fine. It's all fine. This is fine." I'm paraphrasing.
So early voting began yesterday, and there was a two hour line, so we skipped it. Today the line was only about 30 minutes, but we went mid afternoon because a lot of people showed up as soon as they opened this morning, and I suspected that a lot of people would try to go on their lunch hour, so 3pm was the sweet spot.
They had 6 foot markers on the floor, and the poll workers were adamant that people respect the spacing. All of the people checking you in were behind plexiglass. We have voter ID here because...Indiana. Masks were required and that was enforced. Everyone was given a plastic glove to wear for the poking of the buttons on the voting machine. There were multiple hand sanitizer dispensers.
Judging by the man in front of us, and the two older women behind us who loudly discussed how voting by mail is "just not safe!" Indiana will not go blue, but honestly, did any of you really expect us to? Those of you who live in blue states, cherish the fact that your neighbors and coworkers are not mostly raving lunatics. Red state living is hard. Still, we've done what we can. Two straight Democratic tickets, which means that a lot of local races we abstained because there was no democratic candidates. Having said that, there were at least some, and in years past there was often none. Look at us improving. I got to vote for a candidate for county surveyor!?! You go dude! You survey that county! I doubt he'll actually win, but that's not the point.
I'm glad we're done. I think we did it in the safest possible way, given the circumstances we were forced to deal with.

Your story sounds encouraging from the standpoint of the safety measures in place. So glad you could go at a non-busy time.
Just FYI - I live in a blue state, yet are surrounded by republicans signs in my 'suburbs' . Hard to believe. I see careless behavior too.

(4,405 posts)Sent them off over a week ago and their safe arrival has been confirmed.
We had a special election here a few months ago and my wife and I voted in person at the polls. Based on our past experiences, our polling station is usually pretty quiet so we figured we could just wear masks for the short time we would be there. To my dismay, this time around, because voting was expected to be light, two precincts had been mashed together in the same area (lobby of the local middle school) and one entire table of poll workers were maskless.
We both called in complaints to the local elections bureau, and I'll have to take their word for it that something was done, but no way was I going to take a chance again during the presidential elections. So we requested a main-in ballot as soon as it was available. We won't have any effect on red state WV, but I like the thought of our votes being part of the nation-wide count for Biden. It might not determine the electoral college, but it contributes to the tenor of the nation.

(658 posts)That was the first day of early voting in Indiana. The line was around the block, downtown, and it took over two hours to actually get into the polling place and vote. I took a neighbor with me, who confided on the way home that he also voted a straight Democratic ticket. So there are 2 more for Biden - Harris!
I'm certainly not making a prediction about red, red Indiana, but -- although I ALWAYS vote -- the last time I saw lines like this was in 2008, when Indiana went for Barack Obama. I'm hoping against hope that we surprise everybody and move into Joe Bidens column this time. I dont think anyone expects that to happen, but it could. I think I'll go get a bottle of champagne this week, just in case!
I forgot to mention that our local news reported that voting was heavy everywhere in the state.

(658 posts)I don't want to be unrealistic, but it's absolutely true that the lines were amazing -- comparable only to 2008! And those lines were as long when I left the polling place as when I arrived. I'm cautiously optimistic. Biden might just surprise the Repubs here. I can hardly wait to see what happens. I'm sure Trump thinks he has Indiana in his pocket. We shall see!
