It's the HIPA Act.

2. I have been tempted to post this a zillion times. Drives me nuts, but...

That's the thing with acronyms. If one doesn't really know what the letters stand for, then it is easy to get the acronym wrong.

5. Not just DU, a lot of medical facilities and orgs do it, too.

Try googling "HIPPA -HIPAA" (without the quotes).

An awful lot of people that should really know better are misspelling it.
