A friend of mine posted something on Facebook and one of her friends came back with "Vote for Freedom, Vote for Trump".

I came back with "I vote for reproductive freedom, I'm pro-choice, and that's not Trump".

He wrote back with "That's murder, and I support life."

I responded with "I've already chosen murder twice in my life and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Since you're not a woman, you'll never be in my position, so as far as I'm concerned, your opinion isn't worth a hill of beans. But go ahead and say your piece. Republicans ONLY care about the unborn. Once a person of color is born, they crap all over them. The hypocrisy we see in your party knows no bounds. The only "post partum" humans you champion are white males. And your president has shown that living Democrats are expendible. Like the 200,00 humans that died of COVID-19. So, go ahead and save the unborn. We all know you don't care about them once they start breathing."

Alternatively, ask him to provide a surrogate uterus to carry to term these "precious little lives" and to work on a transplant procedure that would allow all of the "godly, Christian women", so concerned with 'life' to practice what they preach.

Then inform him that those surrogates will NOT receive prenatal care, nor well-baby visits after birth, they will NOT be treated in hospitals as actual patients, but will be allowed to die at alarmingly high rates after their forced births and that the 'precious little baby' will grow up without adequate care, food, education or opportunity.

Because that is what "pro-life" means. Make abortion a crime and its off to jail for women -- sometimes women in truly dire circumstances -- and the doctors who help them. It's off to jail for women who try to self-abort and end up in the hospital, who are then hauled off to jail for their crime (if they survive).

I've found that that can steer the conversation in a more reasonable direction.

Point out that what he wants is "no more abortions." We want that too. We think it would be wonderful if abortion were as rare as possible. If women -- including young women -- were fully informed and had easy access to birth control (with complete confidentiality).

Making abortion illegal will absolutely NOT accomplish his goal of "making it stop." "Banning" is not a magic wand.

It will only inflict greater suffering. Suffering for women and doctors who get "caught" and jailed. Suffering and death among desperate women who attempt to self-abort. More teens and other women having children they cannot support. More poverty because we have NO subsidized child care to support working mothers.

If he wants to see fewer abortions, he should support easy access to birth control. He should support subsidized child care to make it possible for a woman who wants a child, but who simply can't manage it because the cost of child care leaves her too little to live on.

When we're adequately feeding, clothing and housing the 7 billion souls who are already here, then we can give every ejaculation a name. Until then, it's really irresponsible to bring every pregnancy to term in a world of such need and privation. A person who can't control her own body isn't really free. Also, if a person is truly concerned about abortion, it's worth noting that the major cause of abortion is the natural process of a failure of a fertilized egg to implant or miscarriage. It seems really cruel to heap criminal liability on a woman whose body doesn't carry a pregnancy to term through no fault of her own.

But then, the cruelty seems to be the point of it all for these busybodies.

Trump’s antibody treatment was tested using cells originally derived from an abortion. The Trump administration has looked to curtail research with fetal cells. But when it was life or death for the president, no one objected.

Then, I ask if they are against FDIC, SNAP, and WIC (along with other programs), they almost always are.

Finally, I point out that they aren't actually pro-life, they are fetus fetishists, because they don't care about the life or bodily autonomy of grown women AND they don't care about those "babies" once they are born, they care only for the fetus.

Here’s another possible response for the toolbox, with the emphasis on bodily autonomy and government intrusion.

Ask if it would be acceptable for the government to dictate to you (whoever you’re talking to) that they must give up a kidney, part of their liver or bone marrow without a choice to prevent someone else from dying.

It’s not up to the government to interfere with or dictate your choices about sacrificing to keep someone else alive, imo. And the person is not a criminal or evil who chooses not to use their body that way, or who says ‘I’m not ready’ to do that right now.
