Question

Can any of you medical people out there describe what we can expect when they take trump off steroids? Or, better yet, what is the real prognosis for someone who has covid-19 markers such as his? Right now the steroids are making him Popeye on spinach.

Snip
In fact, stopping corticosteroids can lead to a withdrawal syndrome with symptoms such as fatigue, depression, anxiety, mania, or delirium. Corticosteroid withdrawal syndrome can last for two to eight weeks.

When he comes off his Covid drug cocktail.

This could be a very humorous final crescendo for poor trDumpie the circus clown buffoon.

It depends on how long he's on it. Last I read, he's on a short term run, which will avoid the need to taper.

He'll probably feel tired and moody, but that will be indistinguishable from his normal rotten asshole personality.

I've never taken dexamethasone; my experience is only with prednisone. Depending on dosage and duration of treatment, a patient must be weaned slowly. Prednisone is similar to cortisol, which is secreted by the adrenal glands. Adrenal glands will decrease their normal output of cortisol when you are on steroids for a given length of time or dosage. Weaning off the steroids give your adrenals time to ramp back up (so to speak) cortisol production. Abrupt cessation of steroids can shock your adrenals, and in some cases, can result in adrenal insufficiency (which trust me, you don't want to have). How do I know this? Because this happened to my sister after a surgery, and due to chronic adrenal insufficiency (essentially her adrenals don't produce cortisol anymore), she has been on low-dose steroid therapy for many years. Continued use of steroids suppresses your immune system, damages teeth and bones, and can result in diabetes.

So, bottom line, weaning is essential, if you don't want problems down the road.
