Edit: I think its important to note that this could well just be a draft / pre-write just in case of an announcement.
However...
If true, I have one word: fuckers. Also, Biden & Harris should NOT have been anywhere near each other today.

(16,616 posts)PREP. DO NOT PUBLISH UNTIL THE NEWS CROSSES. Vice President Mike Pence Tests Positive For Coronavirus 8 Days After Donald Trump
There's an entire story!
It's either very sloppy or someone's idea of a joke.
Vice President Mike Pence announced late Wednesday that he is among those who have tested positive in the ongoing White House coronavirus outbreak. Pences diagnosis puts the number of of recently-infected people in Trumps circle at 21, according to the New York Times.
It comes after Pence, 61, had repeatedly said he tested negative for the virus, including before Wednesday nights debate with Kamala Harris. During that debate, Pence frequently defended the administrations response to coronavirus.
On Thursday evening, when Pences schedule in his home state of Indiana was scrapped for a return to D.C., the vice presidents director of communications, Katie Miller, tweeted that there was nothing out of the ordinary afoot. Miller, for her part, tested positive in May.

(26,044 posts)...as it's been the contention of many on the right that the Presidential Succession Act (which makes the House Speaker third-in-line) is unconstitutional. So, if it looked like both Trump and Pence weren't going to survive, you'd see Republicans trying to get a definitive ruling from SCOTUS. Barring that, if both died, you might well see both Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pompeo separately sworn in by different judges, and each claiming to be the real POTUS. It would be like the two rival Popes...except with potentially a lot more life-and-death implications for more people.
exboyfil
(17,863 posts)That seems to be a high hurdle for originalists to jump over.
Without any Succession Act, then no Cabinet position has precedence over any other in the Constitution. So a part of the Succession Act would be Constitutional and a part would not be Constitutional?
exboyfil
(17,863 posts)In theory this means without a letter from the President or Acting President surrendering power due to incapacity, resignation, impeachment, or death; then there is no way to remove an incapacitated President or Acting President.
The Constitution is silent on who would be in charge in that case.
NYC Liberal
(20,136 posts)Yes its a high bar, but if both were truly incapacitated, like in comas, Congress could remove both. Would require 2/3 of the Senate, but I feel like in such an extreme scenario where literally nobody was in charge, it would be done.

(17,863 posts)I think Pelosi needs to hold Pence's feet to the fire first, but impeachment is definitely on the table (but politically it might be a non-starter).

I cant stand him as president or Vice President and Im angry at him for being a corrupt suck up.
But I bet his kids love him and the mother.
And if trump does and pence is in icu before this is all over, and Pelosi takes over, we are going to end up with crazy militias shooting in the streets.
In fact, if pence is getting sick it would be wise for him to prepare a transfer of power letter ahead of time (to Pelosi) because Dipshit Donnie wont prepare anything ahead of time.

(32,030 posts)You will see Biden, Harris, Trump and Pence abruptly change their schedules frequently as their campaign management decides where it is most useful for them to go. If people want to make CTs about it , so be it.

(7,006 posts)Vice President Mike Pence announced late Wednesday that he is among those who have tested positive in the ongoing White House coronavirus outbreak.

Oddly, one of the top comments about Pence during the debate related to his eyes. Some armchair epidemiologists speculated that, given the redness of his eyes, he might have coronavirus. While not a commonly documented symptom, it turns out they were right.
According to a doctors evaluation the V.P. released during the 2016 campaign, he is overall in excellent physical health. Like Trump, Pence does not drink. The only medication he takes is Claritin for seasonal allergies. Pence did have two basal cell carcinomas removed from his face, one in 2002 and another eight years later.
Pences declaration comes, of course after President Trump revealed early Friday morning that he and First Lady Melania Trump had tested positive.
The Wall Street Journal and other outlets reported that the president first tested positive on Thursday, but waited for the results of a second test before alerting others.
The results did not keep Trump from attending a fundraiser on Thursday with about 200 donors that was held partially indoors. Trump also knew at the time of the event that Hicks Had tested positive earlier in the day. Hicks flew twice with the president that week, according to WSJ.
The president has frequently been around other people without his mask, including at rallies and a gathering in 11 days ago in the White House Rose Garden for his supreme court nominee, Amy Coney Barrett. That event may have been a superspreader event given that all of the recent White House cases have been identified in the days since. According to the CDC, COVID-infected people may shed the virus for 10 days after the onset of symptoms. In rare cases, says the CDC, transmission may be possible up to 20 days after symptoms become apparent.
Pence was front and center at the event for Barrett. Others who attended and who have since tested positive include counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway, White House press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, Senator Mike Lee, Senator Thom Tillis and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who remains hospitalized."

(6,414 posts)There was some rumors earlier today when Pence canceled some Indiana events, but they denied it was related to Covid. I know, they have no credibility, but there's no reason to think Deadline Hollywood has inside info. They likely just pre-wrote the article in case news broke that he had it.

(4,613 posts)A draft post of a story about Vice President Mike Pence testing positive for coronavirus that was never meant to publish was accidently posted on Deadline. It was pulled down immediately. It never should have been posted and Deadline will take steps to see this kind of thing never happens again. Apologies to the Vice President and our readers. We regret the error.

(4,613 posts)GRAVE ERROR: WORD OF HOPE'S DEATH GREATLY EXAGGERATED
Most news organizations prepare advance obituaries on prominent people who are getting on in years. The AP yesterday somehow managed to post an incomplete Hope obit on its Web site, the WIRE, which serves its newspaper clients. The headline: "Bob Hope, Tireless Master of the One-Liner, Dead at xx."
