I had something like this when I had pneumonia and didn't rotate often enough. Also a lot more fluid build-up in the lung I was lying on.

I have allergies and asthma too and take mild steriods for them. I often get swelling around one eye and not the other first thing in the morning -usually the pillow side.

They probably did his make-up and hair while he was lying down in bed, then propped him up and sent him out there.
