(45,806 posts)I understand the heat in Chicago, but maybe a loose light weight blouse might be more appropriate.

(76,706 posts)I've flown hundreds of times. I think I would find it odd someone would wear a swim suit on a plane. No offensive, just odd.
And, it was 70 something here for a few days. 70s not 90s. Seems a weird reason for the choice of top.
Nobody wearing a plain old shirt would feel uncomfortable. It's been a gorgeous week.
But, I'm still glad she got the refund. Getting booted is pretty embarrassing.

(38,639 posts)The pilot gave her a T-shirt, which she consented to wear (after delaying the plane for 30 minutes), then took off partway through the flight.
ProfessorGAC
(76,706 posts)I thought she passed on the option they offered.
Must have scanned too quickly.
Ms. Toad
(38,639 posts)including one in which she held the camera waist high pointing up at her breasts. I don't know how clear the article made it.
I missed those.

(38,639 posts)I was curious as to what public reaction was, so I was going through the twitter feed - and before I got to responses there were 2-3 more videos.

(113,971 posts)or a woman. Those planes make it all but impossible to avoid inadvertent skin contact.
I don't think it is too much to ask that everyone wear at least a tee shirt.
Sorry, but Americans have become real pigs when it comes to travel. Much worse than other countries and I have traveled extensively.
Id hate to see what shed think of the heat in NC.
That is too much for public transportation. At the beach or a backyard barbeque maybe, but not an airplane.

(18,828 posts)That being said, wearing what looks exactly like a bathing suit top on a plane is probably not going to work out too well.
Massacure
(7,593 posts)If they changed it to something more in line with "passengers shall wear a top which covers the entire torso below the armpits and above the waist, Southwest would would be well within their right to deny this passenger boarding. Their current policy is just asking for trouble, IMO.
Ms. Toad
(38,639 posts)The actual language requires "tasteful," which is equally fuzzy - but less offensive.
I agree, they need to just change it to what you suggested.

(10,497 posts)her body. Her stating as a black woman...not fair to me is disrespectful to black women and men who have been subjected to over-sexualization throughout history.
Ms. Toad
(38,639 posts)any more than I would want to be seated next to an old white guy with his hairy chest sticking out of a deep V with his belly sticking out below a partialy buttoned shirt
That's beach attire, not plane attire.

(51,308 posts)White woman or black woman, white man or black man, just no.

(46,058 posts)A. 77 isn't hot, wherever you live.
B. Even if you were flying to Florida, where it's still in the 90s, you could have worn a shirt over your bathing suit top and taken it off when you get outside.
C. Airports, and airplanes, generally have the AC cranked up. That's where you were spending the bulk of your time.
D. This had nothing to do with her race or gender. It's just not appropriate for an airport or plane.
BTW, I feel the same way when I see men with unbuttoned shirts, their hairy chests and beer bellies there for all to see, walk into grocery stores.
MiniMe
(21,883 posts)So I personally wouldn't wear that top. At least she has a mask on.
XanaDUer2
(15,772 posts)It's a bathing suit. Why is there no common sense anymore?

(51,308 posts)Southwest has a good record, a shame people abuse their good will.

(6,319 posts)I wouldnt call it lewd. Certainly not offensive to me. Maybe a bit disrespectful to the people she would sit next to. Unless it was not a full flight. Thats not an unusual outfit for a hot weather. Her nipples are not exposed. Is this about the cleavage or her belly? I bet if her boobs were much smaller, no one would say a thing. And yes, if it were a white woman, this would be complete non issue.
I never heard of southwest dress policy, is there a fine print somewhere when you book a flight? never seen it.
Freedom of expression is constitutional right and is to be celebrated not shamed. Madonna would have sued the hell out of southwest.

(24,699 posts)Thats simply too much exposed skin for a plane flight.
For a date or a trip to the beach its fine.
And newsflash - most planes get really cold once you take off. I always bring a sweater on a flight and always have to put it on.

(34,407 posts)she needs to be white, blonde, and with smaller breasts.
CloudWatcher
(2,127 posts)Sorry, but I think the "snacks" Southwest serves us are a lot more "patently offensive" than what she's wearing!

(3,622 posts)My advice is to avoid, to the greatest extent possible, skin contact with aircraft seat coverings...
Don't ask...

(64,371 posts)It was hotter than hell on the ground, though.
I usually wear a short sleeve, but not sleeveless top in summer on a flight.
