One man was killed and a male suspect is in custody following a shooting at a protest in Denver Saturday, authorities said.
The shooting occurred in the courtyard near the Denver Art Museum, officials said. Police initially said one victim was transported to the hospital and their condition was unknown. Denver police later said they were investigating the incident as a homicide.

(26,044 posts)I notice ABC went out of their way to NOT say which side the shooter and victim were allied with. And none of the other news apps has anything about the incident at all.

(25,952 posts)"A private security guard who was hired by 9NEWS is the suspect detained by DPD," the station said in a statement. "It has been the practice of 9NEWS for a number of months to hire private security to accompany staff at protests."
So, the press hired armed private security. Wow.

This is a potential award winning photograph of a very tragic event. That's what photojournalism is about, keeping cool under pressure to record history.

I also saw a photo taken seconds earlier, just as the right-winger open hand smacked the security guy, knocking his glasses down like that. That preceded the gun display, and it looked like security guy was just trying to get his group past the trouble up to that point. He likely backed up and drew his gun, RWer pulled his mace. Then the single shot we see, followed by the arrest.
