The stupid media will not let it go. Even Reverend Al was asking Simone Sanders about it today. We are giving the media and the stupid ass Republicans a talking point.

Just like you have to the lower courts.

Right now the publicans are packing the carts with right wing extremistS serving them.
Biden is not letting dishonest, wealth-serving media drive his decisions, a losing response. And by the way, this would be Congresss decisions, not the presidents.

(8,849 posts)at this point we've got to win the election...deal with covid and get people working again, rescue the economy, rejoin the global community...and then deal with the courts

(26,357 posts)Is Biden gonna pack SCOTUS or not? Biden should keep it a mystery - keeps that gun pointed at Moscow Mitch.
Aside from that, what do you mean by "better option"? The tactic is simple. Congress passes a bill, and Biden signs it, increasing the number of justices from 9 to 13, then appoint 4 liberals to make a progressive majority. Easy-peasy.
Don't make excuses for it, don't apologize, don't even bother watching the polls about it, just fucking do it. Let the fascists scream. Their pain is my joy.
Democrats must learn to be more ruthless.

They are getting skittish about their last hurrah being nullified and kicking up as much dust as possible. I'm already masked up so the dust doesn't bother me.

(1,406 posts)The Constitution must also be looked at with an eye to updating to match the intent to the needs of today's Democracy or Republic, whatever you prefer to call it. The founding fathers never contemplated and Internet or which "militias" or automatic assault weapons in the hands of ordinary citizen. They also never imagined that women and black would refuse to be subjugated to an unjust, unfair, and patriarchal society either.
Not just the SCOTUS needs to be expanded but the lower appellate courts also.
AND CONGRESS NEEDS TO PASS LEGISLATION TO CODIFY VOTING RIGHTS FOR ALL NATIONAL ELECTIONS

(3,921 posts)the court, to the point of ramming through a RW justice weeks before an election - yet somehow Dems/Biden are being put on the spot on this.
Biden should simply answer that it is the Repubs who have packed the courts and as a result we may need court reform in the future, but it's a hypothetical at this point and he would look into it if elected. He should also reiterate that he would always follow the Constitution (which says nothing about the size of the courts).

(240 posts)I'm not the guy who's stacking the court. That guy is Donald Trump with the help of Moscow Mitch. Never in the history of the Republic has a Supreme Court justice been approved only a few days from he election.

(10,724 posts)Stacked/packed with incompetents by Moscow Mitch and the Trump cult?
We need to address this full on. Its important that our courts are not full of crazy ideology and zealots. We need to seat a lot more people of color asap.

(58,785 posts)The supreme court and lower courts are being packed right now by the current Republican Congress, with Trump signing off.
The 118th Congress will decide whether to allow right wing stacked courts to stand, a potentially huge problem that promises to betray the people practically and ideologically, and work with that or to take Another action to change it.
One of the few things that Trump has read off the Teleprompter that are true is that elections have consequences. But that doesnt mean were gonna roll over for them.
