Buzz grows around Cuomo as Biden's attorney general pick
Axios
Alayna Treene, Hans Nichols
Democrats are so convinced that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo could be considered for Joe Biden's attorney general that aides at the National Governors Association, which Cuomo chairs, are looking into contingencies for replacing him, two sources familiar with the situation tell Axios.
What we're hearing: Some Democratic donors in Cuomo's orbit tell Axios that the governor is being pushed for the job and that Biden would consider him, based on their long friendship.
Why it matters: The AG would be among the most politically sensitive and high-profile jobs in a Biden administration.
Biden's AG also would manage the federal response to police violence, social unrest and systemic racism, and the AG could seek to use federal powers to blunt state abortion restrictions.

(10,333 posts)I'm worried that he doesn't have it in him to go after Trump and co.

(85,148 posts)In theory, he should be next up for VP or President if those positions become available. He'll probably be too old by 2028 (70).

(37,369 posts)Not that there's anything wrong with that.

(28,261 posts)Adam Schiff would be very good, but I don't know if he could be confirmed, and I'd rather keep him in Congress.

(41,631 posts)So okay, that's not happening! I sincerely believe Adam Schiff or Jerry Nader would be awesome. Probably Schiff would be the best choice and I think he really wants it.
Also what happened to Preet Bharara, wasn't he everyone's first choice a while ago?

(12,554 posts)She earned it.
She was blowing whistles on drumpf the moment he took office and got fired with no repercussions for her trouble. She knows the job and has the integrity to do it.

(5,722 posts)Sally Yates. Preet. Such an embarrassment of riches, we dont need to go to a gov who is a current media darling.

(6,352 posts)I would like to see someone who has been a federal prosecutor. Maybe someone who isn't as political.
And I think as Covid ramps back up NY will need Cuomo to hang on as governor.
Historic NY
(40,037 posts)they should look to Preet. Besides he has been able to spend time with his daughters. I think he wants a fourth term, it drive the Repukes here nuts. On May 28, 2019, Cuomo announced that he would seek re-election in 2022 for that 4th term. Should he complete that terms he be the second longest behind George Clinton.

(54,770 posts)than prosecuting trump for political crimes and incom in office. Now, tax fraud for years before, state laws, etc., might happen. My guess is trump will live a pitiful old broke, despised man, possibly appearing on FOX and at Klan/Nazi conventions, Sturgis to sign autographs.

(4,380 posts)still in office need to be investigated. Russian money, off shore bank accounts, stock fraud, treason etc.

(54,770 posts)find serious criminal activity, lock em up. Would love for the trump kids and Kush to get that treatment.

(785 posts)No way Trump leaves office without a federal pardon in hand. He'll get it one way or the other. He'll also pardon everyone in his orbit.
Truthfully, Biden probably wouldn't mind this as it would allow his administration to move on from Trump and not get bogged down in political crimes and igniting division in the country.
State charges against the Trump crime family is where the action will be.

(6,154 posts)Until Biden actually wins. Until that has happened, everything else is pure speculation. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. 2016 is still fresh in my mind.

(5,462 posts)No there there . . . just one reporter speculating.
Cuomo has managed the pandemic well since some initial serious missteps, but he cooperated with and enabled GOPers and fake Democrats in the NY Senate for years, preventing the passage of truly liberal legislation befitting the state. Those fake Dems were all defeated by real ones, but Cuomo had nothing to do with it and his efforts to erase the whole sorry incident from history aren't convincing. He would be a highly disappointing pick to clean up the Justice Department.

(11,419 posts)a lot of DC experience in the House - I wanted him as Hillary Clinton's running mate.
Renew Deal
(85,148 posts)The negatives: There are better natural fits. He is likely high up on VP and Presidential lists for 2024. It would be a big loss for NY.
Overall, we could do better and worse. He has declared he would run for reelection, but things have changed.
Luciferous
(6,586 posts)Schiff would also be an excellent choice and he certainly wouldn't have a problem going after Trump and his cohorts.
Wanderlust988
(785 posts)Preet, Neil Katyel, or Sally Yates. We need to get the DOJ back to having integrity and not being seen as political.
Doug Jones is a politician, but he is a former federal prosecutor and not seen as a lightning rod.

(3,921 posts)He's from a red state, but is pro-choice and pro-civil rights and has the record to prove it.
He's respected across the political spectrum and would restore integrity to the office, which Barr has destroyed.
mvd
(65,912 posts)I have mentioned him. Neither he nor Cuomo would be my first choice. And I have no idea how Jones is on the death penalty. But he is good on what you mentioned plus corporate transparency and not overdoing things with non violent offenders.
BGBD
(3,282 posts)He would be a fine choice.
Of course we could troll the Republicans and make Hillary AG.

(5,752 posts)especially not from red states.
If we take majority, it will not be by a wide-enough majority that we can deplete the bench.
Preet would be good, Sally Yates would be good, Glenn Kirschner would be good.
BGBD
(3,282 posts)Losing that seat this year anyway.
BannonsLiver
(20,594 posts)Were about to be balls deep in virus cases New York included and I dont think any governor would walk away from the job with that going on, even with the allure of a high profile job like AG.
