Buzz grows around Cuomo as Biden's attorney general pick

Buzz grows around Cuomo as Biden's attorney general pick
Axios
Alayna Treene, Hans Nichols

Democrats are so convinced that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo could be considered for Joe Biden's attorney general that aides at the National Governors Association, which Cuomo chairs, are looking into contingencies for replacing him, two sources familiar with the situation tell Axios.

What we're hearing: Some Democratic donors in Cuomo's orbit tell Axios that the governor is being pushed for the job and that Biden would consider him, based on their long friendship.

Why it matters: The AG would be among the most politically sensitive — and high-profile — jobs in a Biden administration.

The Justice Department will face pressure to investigate Trump-era officials — and perhaps Trump himself — for wrongdoing in office.

Biden's AG also would manage the federal response to police violence, social unrest and systemic racism, and the AG could seek to use federal powers to blunt state abortion restrictions.

they should look to Preet. Besides he has been able to spend time with his daughters. I think he wants a fourth term, it drive the Repukes here nuts. On May 28, 2019, Cuomo announced that he would seek re-election in 2022 for that 4th term. Should he complete that terms he be the second longest behind George Clinton.

No way Trump leaves office without a federal pardon in hand. He'll get it one way or the other. He'll also pardon everyone in his orbit.

Truthfully, Biden probably wouldn't mind this as it would allow his administration to move on from Trump and not get bogged down in political crimes and igniting division in the country.

State charges against the Trump crime family is where the action will be.

No there there . . . just one reporter speculating.

Cuomo has managed the pandemic well since some initial serious missteps, but he cooperated with and enabled GOPers and fake Democrats in the NY Senate for years, preventing the passage of truly liberal legislation befitting the state. Those fake Dems were all defeated by real ones, but Cuomo had nothing to do with it and his efforts to erase the whole sorry incident from history aren't convincing. He would be a highly disappointing pick to clean up the Justice Department.
