Why does Wisconsin have the worse coronavirus outbreak in the US?

"Right now Wisconsin is battling the worst coronavirus outbreak in America. The question is why. What about Wisconsin is different from, say, the neighboring states of Michigan, Minnesota and Illinois, where the virus isn’t spreading nearly as fast?

The answer, at least in part, is politics: specifically, the brand of cavalier, it-will-go-away politics propagated by President Trump and parroted by lower-level Republicans who seem hell-bent on resisting efforts to sustain social distancing and mask wearing when the spread is still low enough to contain — and in Wisconsin’s case, who continue to resist even after infections spiral out of control. moved to the woods of SW WI after spending all my prior life in big cities, I am not at all surprised...it's a cultural clown show out here.

I don’t know why the media fails to mention this.

Wearing a mask, or not, has become a political statement. There are many people here who insist on displaying their "individualism."

Exactly! Earlier I saw for the first time - and have not seen it again, yet - a PSA that showed a mask with the voice-over:

"This is a mask. It is not a political statement..." to summarize the main point of the message.

Hopefully this ad will soon saturate the tv outlets. I did not catch who/what paid for the ad.

back in early July, saw numerous folks (maskless) outside of bars hooting it up. Remember thinking, "those dummies will pay for this."

Having a democratic governor does not offset the stubbornness of their Republican majority.
