I hate to even bring this up but is DU protected on Election Day?

Does anyone know what happened then and is there any way to not have it happen again? Or a Plan B? I’m going to be a wreck, and need equally wrecked company. 😬

8. I seem to recall, back in the depths of the Dubya years...

...when we were all concerned that that administration might use the Patriot Act to shut down "anti-American" websites, that the owners pointed out that they had a backup version of the site running on a server in Canada, and could flip the switch to make that the active one in a matter of minutes. Do we know if that's still active? If so, it might be a good idea to have a hand on the controls throughout Election Day and its aftermath.

I'm pretty sure that DU is a big target.
I was really upset with what happened last time. I really wanted to stay on DU during that election.

27. I was infinitely grateful when the Admins recovered enough to post a note here that FB was up...

It meant that DU was still alive. However, like you I could not take the trolls as they yipped and danced in glee at our “downfall”. And I absolutely hated not having a screen of privacy around my real name.

I have some hosted web space that I don't really use, now I've retired. I'm thinking of putting up an emergency chat room, running IRC with a web interface - just in case.

29. It was more than just DU being down - that same time day

our progressive (at the time) radio station here in Madison WI suddenly and without warning switched to Christmas music and eventually became an oldies station. Never mind it was the #1 profitable progressive talk station. And remember it wasnt just DU being down and unavailable, there was that horrendous graphic of Trump with a gun pointing at us &saying "get in the car."

The net effect of all this was VERY unsettling - clearly, someone did not want us to communicate.
