She is allowing us to see that she is actually a very creepy person.
She is deeply unlikable.
I feel bad for Justice Kagan and Justice Sotomayor. Barretts presence will make them miss their friend Justice Ginsburg even more.

(16,616 posts)I'm cringing as I listen to this.
Like I wrote on another thread, SCOTUS confirmation hearings used to be mesmerizing and intellectually stimulating. But this is unbearably shallow so far.

(12,712 posts)I said that about photos I have seen of her.
She has a very tortured, creepy, almost vacuous expression. It is as if she is empty and struggling to hold onto something. I have seen that look in cult members. Maybe all that handmaid/head nonsense has contributed to that?
It is even baked into her eyes.

There are MANY reasons why this should not be going forward but here we are trotting out the like-able bullshit about a woman. Stop.

(630 posts)I think all mediocre people realize how mediocre they are on some deep level, no matter how much confidence or bravado they seem to project, or how successfully they manage to even delude themselves.
Trump, Kavanaugh, Pence and all Barrett may outwardly express themselves in wildly different ways, but they're all covering up the same thing: inadequacy.
And that covering up takes a lot of effort and energy. Hence in Barrett's case, the forced eyes open, tightened muscles in the neck and rigid posture as her feeble inner spirit wishes it could avert everyone's direct gaze.
And external praise from sycophantic fluffers can only carry so far. For one, it's no substitute for genuine inner strength or integrity. Plus, on some level, it's deeply embarrassing.
Think about it. Ever seen or experienced when a parent exaggerates or gives outsized praise about a child's achievements to others in front of that child? Assuming the child isn't a shallow narcissist, they cringe, shrink and try to hide from everyone's attention.
